West Coast Eats In The Big D

If you live on the west coast, or have ever visited I'm sure you've heard of (and probably ate at) In N Out.  They have recently started opening locations in North Dallas, and let me tell you...these Texans must love them some In N Out!  Lines on opening days have been ridiculous, as seen on You Tube.

Truth be told, I'm not sure what all the rage is.  I had it once when I was visiting my friend in San Diego and it seemed like just another burger to me.  Maybe it's just the novelty of the chain?  Anyways, Chris really wanted to try it out, so we headed over for an early lunch.

The drive-thru line wasn't crazy, yet, but we went ahead and ate inside.

As you can see, the menu is very limited.  Well, limited to those not in the know.  Chris looked up the not so secret menu online, but we decided to stick with regular burger, fries and strawberry milkshakes.

Pretty much like I remembered it in California, it was good but nothing amazingly special.  Am I weird?  Is there something that I'm missing with these burgers and fries?

Have you had In N Out before?  If so, are you a huge fan?

  1. I haven't had an In N Out burger, but I felt the same way about Carls' Jr. & Mighty Fine - everyone raved about their burgers but they're nothing special!! I'm a Fuddrucker's girl - I could never eat a different hamburger in my life and they'd be enough to make me happy! :)

  2. And now you have me craving some Fuddrucker's! Those are some amazing burgers!

  3. i used to live in california and so in n out holds a place in my heart. i think part of it is the novelty and nostalgic retro feel about it, and that the food does taste a bit fresher. maybe not amazing, and i don't think i'd stand in line for hours to eat it. still, that's exciting that there's one in your area!

  4. Not weird at all. I don't really feel like they are that great either. Like Amanda, I feel the same way about Carl's Jr., Mighty Fine, and 5 Guys. My favorite burger places in Austin are Phil's Icehouse & Hopdoddy's.

  5. I'm with you Lauren, I don't get the hype. It's a fine burger, the secret menu is all over the internet . . . it's a lot like a song that got worn out from over play.

  6. I grew up in California and now live on the East Coast, and I have to say.. I really miss In & Out. It's my favorite burger place and I just can't find it's equivalent here! I definitely feel like Five Guys and Shake Shack are highly overrated though. Just can't beat a $2.25 animal style cheeseburger!

  7. Travesty! Hahaha. I looove in and out. Looove. Cheap, fresh and good. Cheeseburger, have them grill the onions, and animal style fries. Its like comfort food to me. Part of my childhood. Lol.

Plus the workers are always always nice. At least at our local one.

  8. Delurking to say: YOU ARE WEIRD. In'N'Out is AMAZING! I'm trying not to eat at fast food joints anymore but In'N'Out is the stuff of my dreams.

Just kidding, you aren't weird, I've definitely heard it's hit or miss. Most West Coast people love it though. My husband from England does not like it, so on the rare occasion that I eat out without my husband, I always suggest In'N'Out! You should try it again after a few drinks late at night - that's when it's most amazing ;)

  9. While I wouldn't wait in an extended line for a burger, In N Out's burger are pretty tasty / fresher. However, I'm still a fan of say Mooyah's and Fuddrucker's. 5 guys? No thank you! Too greasy for my liking...

  10. I had my first in n' out experience in california last month. It didn't seem worth all the hype. My husband loves it but I don't think I could ever go back there.

  11. HAHA! I think you're right... that people of the west coast love it more.

  12. YES!! We tried 5 guys finally and they were a tab expensive and not that great. On the other hand, we love Mooyah's.

  13. I actually feel the same way. I like them, and prefer them over other fast food chains but they aren't my favorite burger, that's for sure! My favorite burgers are from a local place in Seattle - Red Mill. Now those are some tasty burgers!

  14. I assumed they hype was just that...hype. Not indicative of a good burger necessarily. They've been messing up my Little Elm to Dallas commute by popping up all over the place. Haven't made a trip to one of them and don't plan to anytime soon.

  15. I've never eaten at in&out, but I really do want to try their fries. They seem like something I would like. Although so terrible for me. :)

  16. The first time I tried them I wasnt a huge fan. Someone suggested trying it animal style and that made a big difference to me. The best burger ever? No, but pretty good for fast food.

  17. I might have to try that, my mom still wants to check them out.

  18. I'm with you.... I don't think it's anything special. I think Five Guys is a WAY better burger.

  19. As a Californian who simply adores In-N-Out, the comparison to Five Guys and Carl's Junior absolutely makes me cringe! In-N-Out is in a league all its own, in part because everything is so much fresher! I cannot tell you how many times I craved In-N-Out while living in New York. It was torture! While the universe is finally right again--I now live only a few blocks away!
