Wine is something I grew into after college (you know, the years of liquor and beer) and I was ecstatic that Chris planned a weekend trip to Fredericksburg, TX for my birthday in 2010.
It's a little over a 5 hour drive down to the hill country, and it's like a night and day change in scenery from our everyday. The area is beautiful and so relaxed and was just what I needed during all of the wedding planning. The best part of the trip was that Chris planned it all. As a planner, I love to plan out our vacations - where we're going to stay, places to eat, what activities we're going to do. But this trip was such a refreshing change where Chris did all of that, all I had to do was pack and enjoy.
We stayed at a cute little B&B, where Chris had arranged for champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and a couples massage.
We toured a couple of wineries and even had the opportunity to stomp some grapes!
We ate delicious breakfasts at the B&B, and Chris planned some fabulous dinners out around town.
Of course we couldn't leave without a couple bottles to go.
I love this birthday tradition of ours and hope to keep it going as long as we can!
Are you a wine drinker? What is your favorite type of wine?
what a wonderful weekend he planned! and yes i love wine! right now i'm loving cote du rhones--but i always love riesling and a good bottle of bubbly!
ReplyDeleteI definitely favor the sweeter wines, but Chris loves all types so I'm starting to branch out with more dry wines. Bubbly is always welcome :)
DeleteSo fun!! I did a winery tour there exactly a year ago. I loved it!! I think I had the best wine I've ever had on that tour.
ReplyDeleteLauren- I am wanting to go to Fredericksburg so bad. I may need some trip advice from you.
ReplyDeleteI've only been twice (this time and once for a friend's wedding) but I'll help if I can :)
DeleteFun! I feel like I learn so much about Texas from your blog. As for liking wine, oh yes! :) I've planned whole trips around it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a romantic trip! I don't think my husband has ever once planned a little getaway.. hmph... it's always me who does everything! I love spending time in wine country!
ReplyDeleteI always say that I love planning everything, but I think a part of me would get a little ticked doing it all so this was such a treat. We've tried to agree that every other year he'll plan the birthday trip so I don't get so burnt out.
DeleteI'm not really a big wine drinker, but my SIL's wedding was in Fredericksburg last year and we did the Grape Creek tasting! Fredericksburg is such a cute little town.
ReplyDeleteIt is!! If the drive wasn't so long for us I think we would go there more often!
DeleteI have been wanting to go to Fredericksburg so bad! I'm hoping for a girls' trip one day in the future!
