Homemade Chicken Nuggets

Chicken nuggets were my childhood favorite on the rare occasion that we ate at McDonald's.  Now I can make them at home, and they're probably a little (just a little) better for us than fast food.  This was another pin of mine, with the original inspiration found on food gawker.  I used the recipe on a blog, Sammyw, and just guesstimated on the amounts.

Ingredients
2 Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
1 Egg
1/4 cup of Bread Crumbs
Garlic Powder, Pepper, Italian Seasonings
Parmesan Cheese
Olive Oil

Start off by cutting the chicken into bite size pieces.  In one bowl beat an egg with a little water, in another bowl mix the seasoning and bread crumbs together.  Coat the chicken into the egg then roll it around in the breading mixture.  Saute in a pan with olive oil, flipping over until golden brown. This was my first time to fry with the open oil and did get popped once or twice with hot oil.  Be careful!

Thanks Chris for taking this picture while I was trying to speed through coating the chicken

When you remove it from the pan, it's best to place on a plate with a paper towel to soak up some of the extra grease.  Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, add a little dipping sauce (we used Pepperhouse Gournmaise) and enjoy!

What were some of your favorite foods at a child?

  2. These sound similar to the chicken nuggets my mom made me growing up and they were my favorite! She didn't use cheese though, that addition sounds great.

  3. Lauren - hey there - I'm a follower from Weddingbee. (Got married at the end of May..) My husband and I make chicken nuggets all the time - but we follow the recipe on the back of the Bisquick box - but the technique is the same and the ingredients (besides the bisquick) are the same. Anywho - we bake ours instead of frying them and they come out DELISH! Just wanted to throw that out there in case you want to try to make a healthier version....

Thanks for keeping up a post-wedding blog!
